Bio: Hanan Lutfiyya is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Computer Science at Western University. She has been recognized for her research, teaching and service with a Western Faculty Scholar Award. She has been on the University Students' Council Teaching Honour Roll.

Bio: Jeremy Prevoe is a Code Monkey who works away in rTraction’s brightly-lit development mines. Having studied at the University of Waterloo, Jeremy moved to London to join its vibrant technology community. He loves to work on anything that faces users, and is always looking for something new to challenge him. Case in point: Jeremy got his start in game development before making his move to the digital agency world. He now spends his hours pumping out interactive websites like the one you're looking at right now.

As a local entrepreneur in the online marketing and web development space for over 15 years, David has worked with a wide spectrum of businesses from dot-com start-ups to Fortune 100 companies. He also serves as Vice President of the Pillar Nonprofit Network Board of Directors.

Bio: Owner and Lead Developer, Andrew McClenaghan, holds a Bachelor of Mathematics majoring in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo. He has worked full-time in small and large companies throughout his career, founding Echidna in 2001. McClenaghan has experience managing all aspects of software development from requirements analysis to software production to quality assurance and deployment. Andrew is a father of two young children and currently sits on the Fanshawe College Board of Governors.

Bio: Along with Brendan Farr-Gaynor, Jonathan is a founding partner of ResIM; a web and mobile development and marketing firm with offices in London and Toronto. Since launching ResIM full-time in 2006 Jonathan has helped grow the business from three to 13 employees with a client list that includes Samsonite Canada, 3M Canada, Staples, Seneca College, the Middlesex-London Health Unit and the London Health Sciences Centre. In his account management and strategy role Jonathan is responsible for sales and helping clients plan and execute project and campaign strategies. Finally, Jonathan is an accomplished bio writer and enjoys doing so on behalf of Andrew Procter and Geoff Villeneuve.

In the classroom, her infectious enthusiasm and jargon-free examples put even the greatest technophobes at ease. She’s written two books about Drupal, drinks Scotch, and keeps bees. These things are probably unrelated.

The lecture will be split into three parts:

1. A developer's environment. aka where is my command line and what do I do there? 

Includes: Emma Jean's top 10 command line tools from when she first met The Command Line (and which she still uses regularly).

2. The basics of Git, applied to small team (and solo developer) work flow. 

Includes: versioning your work and merging your code with someone else's.

3. Popular developer tools for larger teams.

Includes: just enough information for you to decide what’s worth investigating and what might be too much overhead for your team right now.

Most recently, Snook has written the book, Scalable and Modular Architecture for CSS, sharing his experience and best practices on CSS architecture. Jonathan currently works as a Design Lead at Shopify.

Bio: Brian Garside has more than 15 years in web design, user experience, and video production.

At the Info-Tech Research Group, he is responsible for user experience on the web, and manages the New Initiatives team, ensuring that all new web development adheres to the standards, principles, and processes his team has created.

Prior to Info-Tech, Brian helped build the early web presences of many of Canada's largest media companies including TSN, The Food Network, HGTV, Showcase, and Life Network.

In 2007, he moved from Toronto back to his home town of London, Ont., and is involved in the small business and technology communities there. Today, Brian is part of the team that runs the online small business invoicing system BalanceDo. He is also a co-founder of Canada's online comics superstore All New Comics.
